Progressive or Paranoid?

The Progressive Democrats of America

From the ashes of the 2004 Presidential Campaign came a knight in shining armor called the Progressive Democrats of America.

The failure of Dennis Kucinich and Howard Dean to win the Democratic nomination left their supporters desperate for a messiah who could save them from obscurity. So they bravely soldiered on to form a united front that was destined to help shape the future direction of the Democratic Party.

Last week their East Bay chapter sponsored an educational event at the Grand Lake Theater in Oakland that highlights the direction they are headed. They hosted a prominent 9/11 conspiracy buff, David Ray Griffin, a man who claims that the US government planned those attacks.

As far as I am concerned they can host neo-Nazis at their events if that is their wish, but I will still reserve the right to criticize them for it. I fail to see the progressiveness in the subject matter presented. This kind of trash is in the vein of UFO conspiracies or the preaching of Armageddon, but only much more nefarious.

The bulk of the evidence provided by Mr. Griffin is based on conjectural arguments disputing the accepted history of the 9/11 attacks. His basic strategy is to try to poke holes and create doubt about what is believed to have had happened. He provides little or no evidence of US culpability except for some contrived arguments that there were some controlled detonations that were set by evil government agents. Once again there is no proof of these allegations, just conjecture. Using such arguments you can virtually disprove anything without submitting any evidence to back up your preconceived conclusions.

Does such a slanderous conspiracy theory define the patriotism of the Progressive Democrats of America?

One fascinating dynamic that has been picking up steam lately is the fact that the “anti-war” movement is slowly moving from bashing Christians to exploiting the pacifist nature of Christianity to promote their cause. You see Griffin is a noted Christian philosopher and theologian! I also made a similar observation that most of the literature booths set up for the “anti-war” protest on the anniversary of the liberation of Iraq were Christian (Balboa Park, San Diego 2006). It seems that Christian fundamentalists are OK when they are their side.

Anyways, it is one thing to be against the US liberation of Iraq and another to promote such hateful anti-American propaganda. In an effort to build momentum to impeach President Bush and to leave Iraq at the mercy of terrorism, these self-proclaimed Progressives will stoop to any level. There are no crimes that they will not accuse the Bush Administration and the US military of.

While they benefit from such conspiracies and propaganda, I can think of another group of people who also benefit and they aren’t running for US Congress.

Jesus preached non-violence. Some of his followers believed he was the messiah that would free them from Roman rule.

Unlike Mohammed's vision of Islam, Christianity was a more peace-loving religion.

Hey, where'd ya get the photo of the red faced Jew on the twin tower?

Did you know that there were no Jews on the Lusitania? They were all warned beforehand because it was a Zionist plot to entrap the US into WWI. That way they could grab Israel from the Ottomans, but you already knew that didnt you?

(Wow, its scary how easily a conspiracy theory can be hatched without any evidence.)

Christians are taught to love their enemies. This is true. However I feel putting the enemy out of their misery is the best way to love!

you like fish - have you ever eaten stingray?

you still haven't told me about who the red guy is. i must have one of my >^,,^< naps now...prrrrr - actually, it's the nap i usually take when i've been bad - the one where my husband will say, "i think you need a nap!" well, who am i to argue with the guy who thinks he's boss?

I always stick with senorita to score points.

Have I ever eaten stingray? Nope and I probably wont ever "get the opportunity".

MZ thinks that the red guy is a Jew because he feels guilty about sinking the Lusitania, but it can be anything you want.

That is the beauty of conspiracy theories, you are not weighed down with factual information. Use your imagination to advance your political goals.

Have a nice nap...

i've been awake for hours!

i have no political goals as much as you'd like to see me as the president. no, i will not run in '08! besides, doesn't one have to be just shy of honest to be in the political business?

that's a shoe that doesn't fit nanc because i'd be calling islamic fundamentalist terrorist homicide bombers "islamic fundamentalist terrorist homicide bombers"! i've heard you cannot do that and be a very good politician...
