Jesus Has Legal Troubles

Would You Sue Jesus?

In my last post I discussed how I agree with Liberals on social issues, but find myself alienated from them because of their tactics and their senseless opposition to the War on Terror.

Well here is a fine example of what I am talking about. Luigi Cascioli, an Italian atheist, is accusing a local priest of breaking the law by teaching that Jesus Christ existed 2,000 years ago!

Cascioli, claims that Rev. Enrico Righi violated two Italian laws. The “Abuse of Popular Belief Law” in which someone fraudulently deceives people and the “Impersonation Law” in which someone gains by attributing a false name to someone.

Speaking to Reuters, Righi, 76, sounded frustrated by the case and baffled as to why Cascioli singled him out in his crusade against the Church. “We’re both from Bagnoregio, both of us. We were in seminary together. Then he took a different path and we didn’t see each other anymore,” Righi said. “Since I’m a priest and I write in the parish newspaper, he is now suing me because I ‘trick’ the people.”

What the hell is wrong with this guy? This man is pressing for the persecution of a priest because of his religious beliefs. What if he did something like this to a Muslim cleric? There would be outrage.

What happened to religious freedom for Christians?

Just like Cascioli I am a long time atheist (obviously longer than Cascioli because he attended a seminary). My personal feelings are that religion is a primitive superstition. It actually makes me indignant to think that Christians would expect me to believe in this hocus pocus. However, I have something that Cascioli will never have…CLASS.

Christianity is the largest religion in the world with about two billion believers. I will admit to having some feelings of superiority due to my non-belief, but that has not led me to be arrogant on this issue. I respect the beliefs of others because that is the culture that they have been brought up in.

If Leftists cannot respect their own culture how am I to believe that they truly respect the culture of the Islamic world? They rage against the War on Terror as if it is a war on Islam. Meanwhile they wage a legal war on the right of Christians to have their own beliefs. They wear Palestinian kaffiyehs in protests and attempt to block any efforts by Western countries to protect themselves from Islamic terrorism. I doubt their sincerity, this is an alliance of convenience and I am not fooled…

the case for christ has been tried and won. many great books out there by lee strobel, josh mcdowell, G-d, and many others. it's easier to prove than to prove socrates or plato actually lived.

it is fine to be an athiest if one wants, but self-inflicted stupidity is difficult to ever get over.

if we just go by eyewitness account, the case will be found in Jesus' favor. history attests to it and the fact that we've kept time in these two millenium (anno domini) by Him.

In the hypocrisy of the Left what you wrote above would be considered “extremist religious propaganda that favors a theocracy”.

However, Muslims or members of almost any other faith are tolerated and promoted above Christians.

It is a campaign of religious bigotry. This bigotry has parallels to affirmative action but is motivated by hatred, whereas, affirmative action has been a historical necessity (if there is still a need for it or not - is an interesting debate in itself).

well, and as well they should be. Jesus said, "remember, they hated Me before they hated you." i can handle it and do.

i deplore affirmative action - have always been a meritous action kind of person. if you don't got it don't flaunt nothing!

and i pray you have a good date this evening - it is saturday and a time you should be out and about - now go - no, really, go! one pair of socks!

p.s. i do not want to live in a theocracy in the here and now - too many people trying to capitalize on that - they are JUST men.

I am not an atheist--I believe that the is or at least was a higher intelligence than that of humans. However, I will no accept the logic of any organized religion because I believe that the creator gave humans the ability to logic and all organized religions are based on circular logic. Moreover, I believe that humans were meant to be free people with freedom of thought. This is not compatable with any organized religion.

But because I believe in freedom I also believe that peple should be able to believe any thing they want to believe-provided they do not infringe on my right not to believe. A law suit because one has taught that Jesus lived is infringing on ones right to believe.

but guyk - it has already been tried - dozens, if not hundreds of times, just from eyewitness accounts. i say if you don't want to believe - don't.

i have a friend who is an athiest who believes wholeheartedly that jesus lived, but that he was just a man and a teacher. he cannot be denied. the fact of who he is is always what is in question with unbelievers.

Whether Jesus existed or not, there is no doubt that Christianity has existed for almost 2,000 years.

This is an attack on the freedom of religion. It is a pity that in the West Leftists feel that all religions EXCEPT Christianity should enjoy this right.

To add insult to injury, Leftists claim that the West persecutes Islam. This is an insidious lie. I am completely disgusted and outraged.

The accusational tone of this headline says it all, "Religious Groups Get Chunk of AIDS Money".

Whatever you may think of the case of abstinence over condom use, the title clearly reveals the unique distaste that Liberals have for Christianity ("religious groups").

They endlessly repeat propaganda about how the Bush Administration is equal to the Taliban. This is based on the flimiest evidence like what this article provides.

well i never got any of the money and wouldn't take it if offered and have never persecuted islam as islam persecutes all other religions. the koran is a testimony to its own lies.

i just love it when you're disgusted and outraged! it means you'll get a good night's sleep ;}

This is terrible! Its getting to the point that a guy cant get outraged anymore without getting a good night's sleep.

Geezzzzz

Nanc, I did not say that Jesus never existed. The best, though kind of shaky historian of the ear, Josephus did briefly mention Jesus. There are a mulitude of Christian writings from about a 100 years after the death of Jesus that all claim that Jesus lived and was executed on a cross. I don't lend much credenece in any writings of any religious group because the very fact they use their writings as proof that Jesus lived is in itself circular logic.

But I do concede that there is a high probablity that there was a man that lived and was executed some 2,000 years ago that was a preacher and a teacher. There were hundreds during that time just as there are thousands now. However, I seriously doubt that the teacher Jesus of 2,000 years ago would recoginize the religions taught in his name. The Jesus of ancient times reportedly taught a live and let live way of life that would lead to peace. He did not teach bigotry towards other religions nor homosexuals, nor women. However, his followers did teach this in the name of Jesus. Christianity is now and always has been a religion that advocates conversion by the sword. The difference today is that the followers of Jesus in most countries prefer to use political power rather than the sword to get control. Maybe in another couple of hundred years Islam will progress to this point.

At least with politics those who are not believers have a chance to remain free. But with conversion by the sword and the noose and the fires at the stake there is not a whole lot of options except convert and be a hypocrit--as most did and even do today- or die for the non-belief or belief in something other than Christianity.

It is next to impossible to prove or disprove the existence of Jesus to every one alive today.

This was 2,000 years ago.

After all, they used the DOS Operating System back then!!! Any hard disks, tape drives or floppies that may have survived all of that time are completely unsalvageable.

Not too mention that Al Gore hadn't invented the Internet yet so there are no servers to archive such valuable info.
