Lying Liars

Al Franken (an author and TV scriptwriter that I used to admire) wrote a book called, “Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right”. If he had any dignity he would write a sequel called “Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Left”.

The campaign of lies that gushes from a small but growing group of leftwing Democratic Party politicians knows no decency. Despite all the dire threats they claimed that Judge Alito presented to our country and Constitution, reality proved them wrong with a quickness. In his first case Supreme Court Justice Alito split with conservatives and blocked the execution of an African American death row inmate (so much for Ted Kennedy’s sly assertion that Alito will hurt minorities because he is a bigot when he cited Alito’s short-lived membership in the Concerned Alumni of Princeton).

Campus Progress, a tool for George Soro’s Center of American Progress, launched a smear campaign called “Alito’s America”. They claimed that Alito’s nomination was dangerous because “his extreme right-wing ideology would endanger our basic freedoms”. I am sorry for the language, but these assholes are eating crow right about now.

In an effort to paint a picture of just how “dangerous” Alito is on the issue of capital punishment they posted the following excerpt from an L.A. Times article (despite the fact that Alito’s record on capital punishment is actually mixed):

“Law professor Goodwin Liu has noted that during Alito’s tenure as a federal appeals judge he has participated in ten death penalty cases: “Five were decided unanimously by three-judge panels and involved fairly straightforward issues. The other five provoked strong differences of opinion between Alito and his colleagues. In every one of the five contested cases, Alito voted against the inmate and issued an opinion. Individually and especially as a whole, these opinions show a troubling tendency to tolerate serious errors in capital proceedings. Whatever one may think of the death penalty, Alito’s record should give pause to all Americans committed to basic fairness and due process of law.” (Los Angeles Times, 11/27/05)

Lets rewind to Ted Kennedy’s debacle on the Senate floor when the Democrats brought Alito’s wife to tears.

Ted Kennedy said, “Finally, I just say, Mr. President, if you are concerned and you want a justice that is going to stand for the working men and women in this country, it’s not going to be judge Alito. If you are concerned about women’s privacy rights, about the opportunity for women to gain fair employment in America, it’s not judge Alito. If you care about the disabled, the rehabilitation act that we passed, the “idea” act to include children in our schools that we passed, that’s been on the books for 25 years, the disability act that we have passed to bring all of the disabled into our society, if you are looking for someone that is going to be a friend of the disabled, it’s not going to be judge Alito. And finally, if you are looking for someone that is going to be willing to stand up to the executive branch of government at a time that he is going to exceed his power and authority and the law of this country, it is not going to be Judge Alito.”

In a letter to the readers of Daily KOS Kennedy wrote:

“The Senate Judiciary Committee hearings confirmed our worst fears, and we have to take the strongest possible stand against him (Alito). We owe it to this generation and future generations of Americans to oppose any such nominee who will roll back the progress we've made. The next three days will make all the difference in whether enough Democrats are willing to stand firm against this shameful nomination.”

You can always count on Counterpunch (“America’s Best Political Newsletter”) to say something absolutely ridiculous on any subject and concerning Alito’s nomination they don’t let us down:

“The nomination of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court has, whether we recognize it or not, driven America to the brink. Alito crystallizes a constellation of crises enveloping constitutional democracy as we have known it in America. The political ramifications of the Alito nomination are Byzantine.” (Question: When does someone cross the line between exaggerating and lying? Answer: Read this article)

The Left and Paleo-Conservative Right will do anything to discredit the Bush Administration and they will attempt to destroy anyone they perceive to ally themselves with our President. Time after time they have made the most dire predictions of misconduct by the Bush Administration and each and every time it has come to nothing.

I will leave you with some links that if combined could form a book that writes itself. It would be called, “Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Left” (surprise, surprise). What is most balanced than their own words?

Dahlia Lithwick at Slate, exposes a sinister Conspiracy

Robert Gordon gets disturbed at TPM Café

David Kusnet writes on the New Republic Online that he doesn’t want us to be fooled by the fact that Alito has working class roots, understands personally how bad discrimination is and has strong family ties. Instead his reasoning leads us to judge Alito based on the innuendo and misconceptions of the Left (it appears that from this link the website wants you to register, but I was able to view the article without the hassle by doing a Google search and typing, alito new republic family guy)

Who are you and what have you done to Nanc? I demand answers...

ahhh...the innocent days of Saturday Night Live. When bands like Devo and Fear rocked the house.

Land shark attacks and spontaneous combustion were important issues back then.

think louder than normal and somewhat monotone like steven wright, only he's quiet - it was a disguise to fool you. thank the Power that is i didn't have to finish either one of those songs!

i remember the very first time i saw snl in january, 1976 - and could not believe my eyes and ears. holy cow, did i just say january, 1976? that's 30 years ago - i'm not as young as i was way back then! thank God!

i assume this is date night? you have a wondy time and remember what we talked about before. nancmom

1976? I was a Carter supporter back then, but pleeeeze dont hold it against me.

And dont worry Nancmomma, I wore my socks (the ones grandma knitted for me). With Valentines Day coming up you are gonna have to front me next month's allowance.

The Blogspot servers were screwed up this weekend, is everything back to normal?

nanc said...

i think so. valentine's day is for sissies - and i don't like it or any holidays for that matter. with age comes privileges. of course my family makes a grand deal out of me daily! good for me! we got married on new year's eve so i could remember our anniversary and it didn't work. holidays are overrated.

you should only wear grandma socks on special dates! i don't hold anything against you - but if i ever got close enough...

oh, before i forget - would you cry like a baby if i never showed up again? just curious - someone has implied that you would. his name starts with tazz.

Freedomnow said...

Of course I would cry if you never showed up again. You a prime example of what womanhood should be. I will quote you to prove my point, "Valentine's Day is for sissies".

If only all women had such high ideals, then maybe I wouldnt have to borrow my way through this pseudo-holiday.

Carter supporter in '76? I somehow pictured you to be much younger than that. And I also wasn't sure if you were boy or girl until the Valentines Day comment showed your guy side.

So, Freedomnow, being a middle aged guy who found his way to the right of the Democrat Party and into Neoconville, what do your pals on the left think happened to their old soul mate?

nanc said...

well, you could just bring her and show her my post and then she would have something to aspire to! my poor husband has given up on these days because i will undoubtedly say something like, "what do you mean it's your birthday?" one year i was sure i was going to be 42 or 43 - and went the entire year thinking that, until i found out differently! wow, you don't know how good it feels to be a year younger than you thought.

and, in my much younger days i would tell people i was 10-15 years older than i was just to hear them say, "you look hot for your age!" and now i really do not care - i've earned my stripes.

thank you for saying you'd cry, but you know better than to think i'd leave such a wonderful place. just remember, a good partner would never condemn you for things as they are just things - just make every moment in between count and pretty soon all days are blissful and run from one into another. of course, i'm spoiled.

ah-oh - i was right in the middle of posting an hour and a half ago and everything went "phszzzzztht" - anyway, as i was saying, madze came in on the great american novel we've started here! good night and good day to you tomorrow.

psst - i cannot believe madze didn't know you were a manly man!

Freedomnow said...

MZ,

First you insult my manhood and then you call me middle aged...you are not trying to get on my good side. But dont sweat it, thats just my karma catching up with me.

I was just a kid in 76. Actually Gerald Ford was the first president that I really remember. In 80 because of the Iranian embassy crisis I became a Reagan supporter, but Punk Rock turned me against Reagan.

I was dead set against W in 2000. My friends voted for Nader that year and I chewed them out because I wanted Gore to win (even though I didnt like him too much. It was a case of the lesser of two evils).

It wasnt until 9/11 that I actually realized that W wasnt a fascist after all. I remember one of the first things he did was go to a mosque. Bush's leadership under so much criticism is awe inspiring, the guy rules.

Just this weekend I got in a shouting match with a friend who just pushed me a bit too far. I tried to keep the conversation light hearted but he kept on and on about the neocon conspiracies. ("bin Laden was captured years ago", bla, bla, bla). Then he started attacking me for my views and I blew a gasket, but I caught myself and went back to making jokes.

My friends may have moronic views about the Bush Administration, but they are dumb enough to put up with me. Besides I am not a neocon. I disagree with neocons on almost all social issues and only agree on foreign policy issues. However, in these times foreign policy is everything.

Nanc you are a true role model for all women. You are a cheap date and you stick up for wimpy guys like me.

Bless your heart!!!!!

nanc said...

i do not stick up for wimpy guys! you take that back!

a couple of my hotheaded far to the left friends have tried to get into it with me - and being the male wimps they are - have had the good sense to apologize - the next day! better late than never. they must be really desperate to put up with my abuse - no wonder they're in their fifties and sixties and still don't have a woman! my poor husband just turns away, head shaking, eyes rolling and usually will go hand split a cord of wood or four...

nanc said...

p.s. i am not a cheap date - you take that back! you don't think it costs someone for me to hang out with you? today is a work day for me - yep - i've got a job! doing time...it takes all of an hour and one-half per week - if it's not done properly, i'm liable to have 30+ beefy and not so wimpy guys beating the door down and then what?

nanc said...

p.p.s. thank you for the compliment - now, i'd say you're good husband material if you can melt my cold heart!

Freedomnow said...

If I take everything back then you won't be left with anything and I can't do that to you. I care too much!

nanc said...

i already have EVERYTHING - so if you take some of it back i'll at least have someplace to keep what's left!

Mad Zionist said...

Freedomnow, give the lefty friends of yours hell. I live in one of the most liberal counties in the country and have to deal with irrational leftwing conspiratorialists all the time, too. It can be infuriating.

nanc said...

well, madze - i find it to be the most exhilaratingly most fun i've ever had in life - never infuriating as long as they prove themselves to be the arseholes they really are before it's over! ta!
